We are a small shop, and by small, we mean small – less than 500 square feet! From the day we first saw it, we fell in love with our building and the community it lies in. We were going to make this space work if it was the last thing we did, and we continue to do just that. It is a lot of work, but we love it.
During the peak summer months, we make over 100 gallons of ice cream from scratch each week! Most people are surprised to learn that our process starts in a large pot on the stove. Our batches are small and our flavor selection runs deep. We rotate over 65 flavors, and counting, through our ice cream dipping cabinet. Our flavors change daily, even hourly, depending on demand; if you don’t get a scoop when you see it, you may miss it.
We love East Hills, Ice Cream, and our four legged friends (and Van’s Donut Ice Cream).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is Furniture City Creamery a seasonal business?
We are open all year round. P.S. we tend to eat more ice cream come winter. Rachel has been known to eat donut ice cream cones out in the blizzard.
Are you local friendly?
All of our ingredients are from local Michigan businesses. We love our local products. We try to keep our local inspired flavors simple to highlight the local product in our ice cream.
Where are your supplies sourced from?
We make almost everything you see in the shop from scratch on site. Our few exceptions are Oreo’s and Peanut Butter Cups; simply because we are only two over worked women that love these treats just the way they are.
What’s the story on that Butter Pecan?
We resisted developing a Butter Pecan for almost a year. It is one of our favorite recipes, and certainly the recipe we are most proud of, to date.
Where did my favorite flavor go?
Our flavor selections change daily/hourly depending on demand. This helps keep everything fresh, and gives you an opportunity to try something new every time you visit!
I can’t eat dairy, what can you do for me?
We typically have 4, if not more, vegan flavors available. All of our sauces and cones are vegan. Our hot chocolate is vegan too.
Whats your process for determining ice cream flavors?
We develop our recipes on site. Most new flavors are first and only attempts. Surprisingly, math is a big factor in our development efforts.
Who makes the ice cream?
95% of the products you see in the shop are made by the same two women (Denise and Rachel). Both met through GROW and left corporate jobs to make ice cream all day.
